A major producer of fresh fruits and vegetables in Europe!
At this year's Freskon event, Poland will be the honored country participating at the Pavilion 13 (Stand 37), as it holds a distinguished position in the production and export of fresh fruits and vegetables in Europe and the global market.
Poland is a significant European producer of temperate fruits and vegetables, with Polish farmers boasting centuries of experience in cultivating the finest products. They benefit from the specialization in production, the development of new varieties, and the use of innovative technologies. Based on knowledge passed down from generation to generation and cultivation in optimal environmental conditions, Polish fruits and vegetables are widely known for their exceptional taste and high quality. Some of Poland’s most exportable products include, among others:
Apples
Poland holds a leading position in both Europe and the global market in apple production, which is one of the country’s most popular export products. A significant percentage of their production is exported, primarily in the form of fresh apples but also as concentrated apple juice. The most popular apple varieties include Idared, Champion, Jonagold, Ligol, Gloster, Golden Delicious, Gala, and Cortland.
Soft fruits and other Polish "super-fruits"
The country is also a top producer of chokeberries, currants, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries in the European Union. The first three are often referred to as “super-fruits” due to their unique health properties and high content of antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamins, minerals, and fibers. Poland is also renowned for cultivating some other ‘superfruits’ such as cranberries, sea buckthorns, elderberries, and blackberries.
Champignons – Specialized cultivation
Champignon produced in Poland are highly esteemed by foreign consumers due to their high quality and exceptional taste. Poland is the first producer in EU of this delicacy.
Vegetables - Delicious in all shapes and sizes
Poland is the fourth-largest producer of fresh vegetables in the EU, specializing in the cultivation of cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onions, and cauliflower. The country is internationally recognized for its production of “preparation” vegetables, especially frozen products, pickles, and dried carrots.
Exceptional Products
The abundance of fruits and vegetables in a wide range of products contributes to the growth of the Polish industry. The country’s export activity includes healthy derivatives of fruits and vegetables, such as frozen goods, jams, marmalades, pickles, canned products, ketchups, pastes, sauces, freeze-dried foods, fruit powders, and other products – often certified organic.
Superb juices
Apple juice as well as single and mixed fruit & vegetable juices are Polish export hits. Apart from concentrated fruit juices, Polish production plants produce tasty NFC juices, smoothies, nectars, syrups, and soft drinks made of fruit and vegetables from Polish orchards and plantations. The products meet the highest quality and health standards. Polish producers also offer a wide range of juices from attested organic farming.
In 2022, Polish fresh fruit managed to reach consumers in ca. 85 countries.
- Apples accounted for 70% of Polish exports of fresh fruit in 2022. Approximately 17% of the domestic production of apples were intended for export. Polish apples reached markets in ca. 78 countries. They could be found mainly in EU countries, but also in Egypt, Kazakhstan, Belarus, India, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Mongolia, and the UAE.
- Polish highbush blueberries have been a true export hit. EU Member States are the largest customers for Polish blueberries and other soft fruit.
- Polish juices are extremely popular in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, the United Kingdom, the USA, France, and Czechia. Apple juice is the best liked (accounting for 76% of Polish juice exports).
- Polish fruit and vegetable products also enjoy great popularity. In 2022, Poland exported fruit products with a value of EUR 1.10 billion, and vegetable products worth EUR 1.32 billion. These products find customers in EU Member States, the United Kingdom, the USA, Belarus, Ukraine and other third countries. Frozen food, tinned vegetables and fruit, jams, fruit preserves, plum jams, pastes, dried fruit and vegetables and concentrates are the main export varieties.
