The Digital Future of Fresh Produce

The New Generation of QR Codes with GS1 Standards

24/4/2026 – 11:00-12:30

Presentation by Mr. Manos Papadakis, Senior Executive, Business Standards & Solutions, GS1 Association-Greece

The presentation by GS1 Association-Greece introduces the audience to the 2D barcode revolution, marking the transition from traditional linear barcodes to the new era of the QR Code with GS1 Digital Link. Under the core motto “One scan, endless possibilities,” the session will analyze how this multi-dimensional tool allows products to “speak” digitally, connecting the supply chain directly to the end consumer.

Participants will discover how a single symbol on the packaging can now simultaneously serve:

  1. Point of Sale (POS) transactions.
  2. Enhanced traceability (via batch numbers and expiration dates).
  3. Rich, reliable consumer content—ranging from certifications and nutritional analysis to recycling instructions.

This transition ensures transparency, regulatory compliance and a significantly upgraded consumer experience.
